hey guys!
so ive been working on my second piece, among other things.
after some thought, i agree with kerstin's comment on my earlier post. im juggling a few ideas for huitzilopochtli and coyolxauhqui and how i can better intergrate them and make them interact more. huitzilopochtli does decapitate his sister, so maybe ill work with that.

so heres where things are so far --
im working on the star and moon cutouts for the background. the red and purple mola shape is the only thing attached to the background right now
and the bottom stripe of the border needs to be added.
im pretty happy with coatlicue herself. shes really snakey and textured in person, which i like.

anyone know when the studios open up again? im assuming they open before the 21st.

  1. No idea about the studios, but this is looking awesome! Did you paint the body? What did you do it in, gouache?

I like her lumpy legs. I'm eager to see how you fit the other character in.

  2. I agree with Alison, this is awesome. Nice color choices and I love the stance and placement of the figure in the frame. This could be beautiful when you're done, I'm sure it will be.

  3. its all paper and colored pencil.
and the legs are pretty stumpy, because the bottom border covers them up.

  4. Not sure about the legs being chopped off at the ankles - seems awkward. Can you work feet into the image?

  5. Alycia: the studios open up on the 20th - yeah, I know right?

Linda: I don't think the character necessarily needs feet. I think the strangeness of the character to begin with is interesting enough without us wondering where the feet are. Also, it would be difficult for Alycia to add more cut paper to that area without it looking like an afterthought, in my opinion.

i love reading your posts about your project because all my favourite words are in them. sometimes i just read them for the words and don't even understand what you're asking or saying.

  7. Some little claws/nails (like on the arm) might do it!

  8. i was planning for the bottom border to cut off the legs somewhere near the knees.
i just extended the legs so id have some extra room - and havent put on the bottom border that way if i decide she needs feet i can add some in.
